Houses of the Stormlands

The Stormlords of the East are tempestuous indeed. They are divided, some half of them Lords of the Southern Marches, having fought & defended from Dornish & even Reachmen incursions. But with the joining of the Prince's of Sunspear to the Seven Kingdoms, what are these Marcher Lords to do but scout, drill & expect a slight. The other half of Stormlords are the Harvester Lords. They maintain their keeps, their trade & they bid that no man is caught marching far off when harvest season arrives.

The Stormlands

The Marches of the Stormlands

Far from the vast domains of the Storm King's, todays Stormlands are amongst the smaller kingdoms of the realm. It is not vast resources or troops that make the homelands of House Bratheon such a valuable holding- it is their position. Close to the center of the seven kingdoms, the Stormlands have often been House Targaryen's closest allies in times of peril. So much so, that only recently, the summer palace of the Dragon, the beautiful Summerhall was constructed along the Stoneway, with a permanent royal entourage stationed in Baratheon lands.

But before the Dragon married the Viper, for centuries, the Stormlands stood as a frontier against the south. In the days of the Gardener King's, the Marcher Lords defended against the Greenhand's encroachment. And before only recently, the Dornish would raid & ravage across the border, famous outlaws & brigans still do. So it is that the Marcher Lords pull at the court of Storm's End, to fight & range south, whereas the Harvester Lords bid to throw down their spears altogether, to rely on the King's Peace & to build the prosperity of the Stormlands.

It is the duty of the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands to keep the power & reach of their subjects at bay, for if any faction pushes their lords to their side, devastation might rock the south, and if any strike out on their own, the status of the Stag might suffer greatly.

This is the "Storm's Range" - It

displays both dispositions of your vassals. At either extreme: left, the harvester lords, right, the marcher lords.

Besides the diplomacy you chose to hold, events including matches, disputes and most likely grants & taxes will appear as petitions from minor houses.

The personal loyalties the members

of each house hold toward the Lord Paramount are a factor in deciding

the severity of events, but not their position on the range.

Houses that cluster toward the right will be sure to raise mighty forces & provide skilled commanders to you. But they might also scheme toward unsanctioned conflicts.

Houses that cluster to the left will work, through trade & diplomacy, to improve their prosperity & might help you supplement your limited resources.

But they might also be unwilling, or caught unprepared to support you in

a conflict, going as far to try and prevent hostilities.

Try to balance these extremes or cluster your houses close to yourself, lest you drift as well.

Achievements of House Bratheon & the Legacy of the Stormlands

The Conqueror created the House of Baratheon for- & rewarded its Paramountship to his half brother Orys. Since then, the Baratheon's have stood close to the crown & have served dutifully, as the kingdom closest to the Crownlands. The recent joining of Dorne into the royal household has not only angered many Marcher Lords, but also distanced the Stag from the Dragon in the halls of power.

To unite the Stormlands is to bridge that divide, not only internally, amongst the bannermen, but also in the eyes of realm. Show the Stag stands beside the Dragon, not below it, not cast off for a foreign interest.

The Stormlords respect strength. Gathered methodically or boldly, displayed through splendor or might, it does not matter. But in uniting the Stormlands, it transforms, from the realms smallest kingdom, to the key, without which rule becomes impossible.

Example project.

Enshrine your legacy here.

Achievements are semi-permanent accomplishments that build atop each other to create your legacy. They remain until torn down.

They may be buildings, but are also often reforms, laws, alliances, matches, or even patronage and people.

Achievements will become available here as you interact with you bannermen and region at large.

With each achievement, a path to the next will reveal itself, tailoring the progress to your vision of your kingdom.

House Baratheon of Storm's End

Storm's End stands as a beacon, an indestructible fortress against the stormy sea. And so does House Baratheon, proud & strong, stand against the turmoil of the realm. It is not ambition that raises the Stag, it is fury.

House Baratheon boasts a united kingdom by comparison to many others. The Stormlands wield some of the greatest soldiers & commanders of westeros, honed atop the battlements of sandswept keeps. Many a lords vies for the chance to squire their sons within the Stormlands.

As Shipbreaker Bay claims summer barges & idle merchants, the sailors of Storm's End gain renown across the realm & beyond for navigating these treacherous waters.

The Stormlands are a harsh land for harsh people. But they stand unrivaled in their fervor to shape these conditions to their will.

Man of Vice

Enamored by drink or debauchery.

Seen as the beauty of the family, the eldest daughter of the Lord Paramount has always known her purpose would be to embark on various diplomatic ventures. Accepts her fate, but deep down questions whether there is more to life than being treated like just a pretty face. Misses her mother greatly, and admired her wisdom and intellect.

Lord "Ed" Edward Baratheon, the heir to Storm's End & the Stormlands holds true to the traditions of the rugged sailors of Shipbreaker Bay and braves the waters of the Narrow Sea & beyond as he travels as an itinerant lord, much to his father's dismay.

The young knight has already seen and learned much on his voyages, returning to Storm's End on the anniversary of his mothers passing.

He travels with a young companion, a knighted commoner, a bastard of the Storm Towns streets & unlikely companion, "Archie" Archibald Storm. A childhood friend to the young lord.

Notorious

Ser Geoffrey Morrigen

Marcher Knight of the Stormlands

An economist and diplomat; the aging Ser Morrigen now leverages his families ties to the crown, keeping relations with King's Landing for the Stormlords.

The bitter old Lord of Storm's End, Lord Garic rules his lands & his family with the cold pragmatism of duty since his wife's passing.

A calculating man still, but with much less in the way of patience for long laid ambitions, Lord Baratheon prioritizes the stability of his kingdom over its ascension.

Occultist

Lady Elaina Baratheon

Lady of the Stormlands

Obsessed from a young age with "Higher Mysteries" and their histories, the youngest daughter of Lord Garic shut herself into her quarters with scrolls & books.

Delighted in histories of the ancient occult locations, the Dance of the Dragons, where House Targaryen lost its Dragons 70 years ago, the Doom of Valyria that ended their ancient Empire, millenia before, Glass Candles at the Citadel of Oldtown, strange Green Men at the Isle of Faces, the Wargs beyond the Wall, the Shadowbinders & Bloodmages of distant Quarth & Asshai, retellings of these stories crowded every space she'd occupy until the young girl's mind did not hold the patience for polite conversation or courtly appearance.

She supports her brother's travels, out of love or out of envy, she watches him depart. And her lord father sees one who sails to distant danger and one who reads until the papermites gnaw on her.

At least there's the other two...

After being scarred across her face as a child, and shunned by her father for being careless, the third born lady "Thorn" dedicated her future to becoming a strong warrior to gain her father's respect.

House Tarth of Evenfall Hall

The shores of the Saphire Isle are a welcome reprieve from the storms surrounding it. The lords of Evenfall Hall prosper under the blessings of trade and provide to their kingdom & the realm an essential service. Thus, the house of Tarth has risen much above its station as minor bannermen.

House Morrigen of Crow's Nest

Many a legendary knight has emerged from the Crow's Nest, one who almost slayed Maegor the cruel & one who commanded the Kingsguard of Jaehaerys the Conciliator. House Morrigen sits atop the passage from the Slayne & guards the second path north to Storm's End.

A young knight of a lesser branch rules Crow's Nest, most of the main line having perished with the Spring Sickness. Ser Morrigen aims to emulate the great deeds of his ancestors to prove his claim to the Morrigen lands & titles as he is pressured to concede the keep to an older cousin of the main line- a woman of much talent but passed over in the line of inheritance due to her widowing & possibility to pass the Crow's Nest off of the Morrigen name.

House Swann of Stonehelm

Claiming to be the oldest of the Marcher Lords, House Swann holds great enmity for the Dornish. Their lands are called the Red Watch, streching from the Red Mountains, over the River Slayne, into Cape Wrath. They man the southern border toward Wyl & deal with raiders regularly, honing both their commanders & their soldiers here.

Lord Swann's sons all ride south regularly, spending little time at Stonehelm. Hoping to bridge the gap between the Marcher Lords & unite them with support from the other Stormlords, he himself spends much time traveling across the Stormlands.

In his absence, his sons fight an ongoing war amongst themselves to realize his plans with little patience & understanding.

House Caron of Nightsong

Claiming to be the oldest of the Marcher Lords, House Caron has its focus split, constantly looking south the Prince's Pass & west toward the Reach. The Nightingale of Caron has defended against incursions from either side for centuries, as the furthest holding from Storm's End.

Lord Caron holds Nightsong in a disgrace, not toward the marches, but toward the crown, after his father perished fighting for Daemon the pretender at the Redgrass Field. Lord Caron aims to rebuilt their houses loyalty & standing before the crown & wash the Blackfyre stain from their history while his brother, a suspected sympathizer, waits in the wings to usurp his line from him & his children.

Their soldiers are veterans of the pass & remain at arms at all times.
